Our goal is to match you with the closest and most qualified/appropriate interpreter for your appointments and events. We provide services for a wide gamut of settings: legal, medical, mental and behavioral health, post-secondary, community, business, government, etc. Our interpreters are available both in person and through Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). We are available to serve you 24/7/365 for appointments and emergencies and look forward to doing so!

This website is designed to provide you with information about interpreting services and what you can expect when hiring interpreters.

When To Request Interpreters?

As a general rule, and because of the finite number of resources available in more rural parts of the state, we recommend scheduling appointments at least 30 days in advance when possible for the highest likelihood of obtaining a local interpreter in your area.

How Many Interpreters are Needed?

The number of interpreters needed depends on length or time, complexity of event and content, and other factors. In general, with the exception of medical, any appointments over one hour are likely to need a team of at least two interpreters.

Why Hire Interpreters?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires businesses, public entities, and places of public accommodation, (medical providers, legal providers, mental health, employers, etc.) to provide effective communication including qualified ASL interpreters for people with disabilities. Learn more about your responsibilities here: www.ada.gov

Interpreters can help you achieve your goals. Informed consent, accurate and complete medical histories, and reduced repeat visits are all examples of the benefits of providing professional interpreting.

Without an interpreter, appointments take longer, communications can be incomplete or confusing, and patients/clients often walk away unsure and dissatisfied.

Why Certified Interpreters?

Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, (RID) Certified interpreters maintain confidentiality and neutrality in their work. Certification ensures a higher quality of interpretation and communication as well as knowledge and decision-making skills on issues of ethics, culture and professionalism. Learn more about the role of a professional interpreter here: www.rid.org

Without a certified, licensed interpreter, you have no assurance that communication is effective or accurate. Using friends or family members who are unlicensed can result in biased interpretations and omitted crucial information.

Laws in Arizona

The State of Arizona requires interpreters who are hired by providers to be licensed with the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. More information on these laws can be found here: https://www.acdhh.org/interpreters/licensure-applications/. NASLI adheres to all licensure requirements when providing interpreters.
